What to expect
These celebs have ridden in New Orleans' Endymion parade: Dolly Parton, Britney Spears, more
The Krewe of Endymion hosts one of the largest parades in New Orleans each Mardi Gras season.
More than 3,200 Endymion riders on 37 floats will parade under the theme "Silents are golden" as a nod to silent movies. Themed floats include Siegfried, Metropolis and Silly Symphonies.
The 2024 Endymion parade will be the first since the founder, Ed Muniz, died at age 83 in May. The self-made music radio business mogul and Jefferson Parish politician created Endymion in the 1960s as an alternative to the old-line krewes, where membership was sometimes confined to the social elite. In time, the neighborhood procession became a phenomenon.
Longtime krewe president Dan Kelly has replaced Muniz as captain. The captain's float was renamed the Ed Muniz Founder's Tribute in honor of Muniz. Founder's float riders will also throw a special doubloon honoring him.
The parade will end at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center for the krewe's annual Extravaganza, featuring Sting and Flo Rida.
Parade route
Endymion will roll for about a mile longer this year due to a new parade route. This route also bring the parade down a stretch of St. Charles Avenue, which adds it to the NOLA.com Parade Route schedule.
The parade begins at Orleans and City Park avenues and proceeds river-bound on Orleans Avenue. The parade will turn right at North Carrollton Avenue and left on Canal Street, heading downtown as usual.
At Elk Place, the parade will turn right and travel to Howard Avenue. The enormous parade will round Harmony Circle, then continue downtown on the traditional St. Charles Avenue route, past Gallier Hall. The parade will then turn right on Poydras Street and continue to Tchoupitoulas, where it will head uptown to Julia Street.
The parade concludes near the Morial Convention Center, where the krewe’s public post-parade party takes place.
