This Morning: Sydnie Christmas talks about dealing with agents after BGT win

Britain's Got Talent winner, Sydnie Christmas, brought the house down with her rousing rendition of Over the Rainbow last night.

The powerhouse performance from the 'novice' singer went down a storm with the judges and viewers alike - who voted Sydnie as their 2024 winner in their thousands. Sydnie celebrated with a humble night in Wetherspoons with her pals and admitted on This Morning she's still not checked her bank balance for signs of the £250,000 prize after a whirlwind few hours.

Despite her giddy excitement at the impressive win, the festively-named star is no stranger to the spotlight.

The singer, 28, has a host of musical and acting experience under her belt, leading some viewers to claim BGT was "fixed as f*** as she’s had a singing career before".

The Kent-born crooner, who worked as a gym receptionist when she made her debut on the ITV talent show, claims she 'didn't fit' in the showbiz world amid the backlash. She was also defended by Simon Cowell, who mused: "You know what was interesting? I worked out, I don't think a single act tonight were professionals. They all had a regular job and they did something extraordinary."

However, Sydnie is no stranger to the spotlight. Here's what ITV didn't tell you about the BGT winner...

Reality TV 'struggle'

Sydnie appeared in the E4 programme, Stage School, which ran for two seasons in 2016 and 2017 showcasing the real struggles for students studying performing arts.

The show followed an array of situations ranging from romantic fallouts to stage dramas. One person watching at home clocked Sydnie's TV experience she she rocked up on stage at the London Palladium, writing on X: "I knew I recognised the girl's name who got the golden buzzer on last night's #BritainsGotTalent. "Sydnie Christmas was on the E4 reality show stage school that aired a few years ago now. It was a cross between Glee & TOWIE."

It would appear Sydnie was a stand-out performer on Stage School as one viewer said at the time: "Finally someone who can sing on Stage School. Sydnie."

Theatre roles

While there have been claims Sydnie has a load of West End experience, the singer says she's never had the privilege, telling the Mirror: 'I've done loads of auditions to get into the West End. It's always knock backs, always that you don't fit.

However, she has had a lot of theatre experience, making her debut in London as one of the lead voices in Lazarus, featuring the music of David Bowie, at the King’s Cross Theatre. Sydnie shared a snap backstage of Hollywood actor, Woody Harrelson, after he attended the show.

She says on her Spotify page: "Recently I just finished a musical called ‘Lazarus’, For those of you who loved David Bowie you would have loved this. Lazarus was on at the Kings cross theatre in London. I was lucky enough to act along side the lovely Michael c hall, which some may recognise him in the Netflix series ‘DEXTER’ This was an amazing experience and helped me fully appreciate who David bowie was and what he gave to the world.

Sydnie has also worked on cruise ships including the Royal Caribbean International, where she starred as Rizzo in the musical Grease and in a German production of Starlight Express in 2019 as Belle the Bar Car.
